I have my own ecommerce solution, which use content section as product catalog. I'd like to try to migrate to merchello, but I don't see any benefits of having catalog of products in Merchello section.
Is it possible to use "content node" as product (or product variant) instead of product in Merchello section?
I think you can develop a script that read the umbraco nodes (your products) and programmatically insert them to merchello using your cited (http://our.umbraco.org/projects/collaboration/merchello/merchello/59840-Creating-a-product-on-the-fly) procedure.
To be honest, we originally thought we would have products in the content. However, when you start thinking through shipping logic with multiple providers, various payment providers, currencies, taxation and the notion have product variants in which you want to track inventory for each possible variant we needed to have a better way to make certain data associations.
We do have plans to work on extending the ProductVariant to be able to add Umbraco properties directly in the Merchello back office and then introducing the notion of product groups. However, this is several months out as we are still investigating various approaches to allowing for multi-lingual editing of certain properties.

I found this article http://our.umbraco.org/projects/collaboration/merchello/merchello/59840-Creating-a-product-on-the-fly and it looks like it is possible. Are there any drawbacks of similar solution?
Thanks

OK, but what are benefits of having products in separate/merchello section. Editors must change details on both places (in content and in merchello)
Hi Petr,
