How do I cherry pick settings for import from an older version?

I have 2 Umbraco sites, one is V8 and the other is V9. On the V8 site, the usync settings are under the usync/v8 folder and on the V9 site they're under the usync/v9 folder.

How do I proceed to migrate/import a specific data type from V8 to V9?

    1. Copy the proper file(s) from the usync/v8 folder into the usync/v9 folder (and hope file format is accepted)?
    2. Create a new sync/v8 folder as a sibling of the v9 folder and somehow update settings to read from both folders?
    3. Temporarily remove the entire usync/v9 folder and replace it with a usync/v8 folder with only the files I'm interested? If yes, do I need to place some v8 config file somewhere as well?
    4. Some other approach?

This is a very simplified use case, in reality I'm in the process of migrating a site from Umbraco 7 to Umbraco 10 and am evaluating and testing different migration scenarios. Currently I'm trying out using Umbraco to upgrade the site from V7 to V8, then using uSync to upgrade from V8 to V10. (Speaking data and content here, the source code is a different beast to tame.)

    Thanks, Tor

    Hi Tor,

the files are compatible between v8 and v9 - so its number 1 (copy files from v8 to the v9 folder) and they should be imported.

the whole v8 folder could be renamed to v9 and that will do the full import, we only renamed the folder so people don't accidentally import their v8 settings when upgrading/building a new site.

I was hoping that was the answer. Thanks for the reply, Kevin!
