    Redirect to remote external urls

    (using SEOchecker V1.8.1)

    I have some old inbound links that are now fulfilled by other websites. How can I redirect to the fully qualified domain?

    For example, I have a broken inbound link of /cgi-bin/thumbs.asp?d=/Photography/umbraco%20usa that should redirect to https://www.flickr.com/photos/percipientstudios/sets/72157626450674491.

    When I put the full flickr address in the "or redirect to url" it seems to remove the domain and keep only the /photos/percipientstudios/sets/72157626450674491 portion, which then becomes its own broken link.

    Is this possible with SEOchecker?

    Thanks!
    doug.

    Hi Doug,

    Redirecting to a different domain is currently not possible with SEO checker. You can use url rewriting in web.config maybe?

    Best,

    Richard

    Hi Doug,

    Or maybe use the 301 Url tracker package for this.

    https://our.umbraco.org/projects/developer-tools/301-url-tracker

    Hope this helps,

    /Dennis

    Thanks, my friends!

    I only have a few links to go to external domains, so will do it in the web.config with IIS's url rewriter rather than install another package into the site.

    @Richard - may I recommend this as a future feature? If there's an http:// or https:// (or even ftp:// ?) at the start of the redirect url then it would be an external/remote redirect.

    cheers,
    doug.

    For the benefit of anyone else, here's how I resolved this issue with IIS's url rewrite capability in the site's web.config file:

    <rule name="Redirect to Flickr" stopProcessing="true">
        <match url="^(cgi-bin/thumbs\.asp)$" />
        <conditions>
            <add input="{QUERY_STRING}" pattern="d=/Photography/umbraco%20usa" />
        </conditions>
        <action type="Redirect" appendQueryString="false" url="https://www.flickr.com/photos/percipientstudios/sets/72157626450674491" redirectType="Permanent" />
    </rule>

    Thanks for sharing Doug,

    It is on the todo list to add this functionality in a next release.

    Cheers,

    Richard

    @Richard did you ever get round to implementing redirects to external URLs - can't see this functionality in the latest version ?

    Hi Bradley,

    This is still on the list and will be added in V2 to be released next couple of months.

    Cheers,

    Richard
