    Umbraco as a file repository

We are seeking to solution a filerepository which would be accesed by 5-6 systems (each with approx 300 concurrent users). The file store needs to store 60K documents (word, excel,PDF,jpeg) with an average file size of 2MB. Total store size would be approx 1TB to start with.
The systems would access the repository to read/store files. We dont have any requirement for online document updation. We are not looking at version control or document search features. Just a plain vanilla document store. Some fatures we would expect are
Organization of documents (hierarchically in folder or some other form)
    Document access security
    Auditing of document access
Ability to integrate with other systems
Archival and backup features (Time based purging or archival)
The document store would grow in size even doubling every 3 years so ability to scale in terms of storage, access and retrieval is a must.

Is Umbraco a good bet for such a problem scenario. From what I get it seems to be more of a web content management and publishing system? Am I missing something. Any suggestions business cases around Umbraco which match up to my problem statement?
    Thanks in advance.

Honestly? No, don't think umbraco is the perfect fit for these requirements. I still think Sharepoint is a far more better option for a document mgmt system that meets your requirements.

I haven't said it can't be done, I'm just saying you should the right tool for the right job and IMHO, I don't think umbraco is the right tool there.

    Cheers,

    /Dirk

    Guys,

It may be worth looking at MimeCloud its used for image management and the theory behind it is you can also do it with files. However its not released yet but it will be worth contacting Alex Norcliffe who im sure will be able to help /advise and maybe could be extended to meet your exact requirements.

    Regards

    Ismail
