If it has to be custom made: place a .net control on the page's template, in the Page_Load event increase the value of a numeric property or custom database field for that page by one. Can get a lot more complicated though depending on the required accuracy.
I would for sure go for Google Analytics in this situation, without a doubt. Google Analytics/tracking is one of the most important parts of a website in my opinion. Remember that Google Analytics are free, and when you are already working with this, I'd suggest that you take a look at Morten's great Google Analytics package for Umbraco.
