Problem with 404 on Home.aspx AFTER uForum install
Hello,
This is a bit of a weird one.
In installed the uForum package then was mucking about with the "Standard Site for Umbraco by Koiak" pack, which has a tree like :
Home --About --Another Page etc.
I then right clicked 'Content' at the top, selected Add, then chose a uForum document type. This added a new folder below all of the starter pack stuff called Forum X, for example.
So, I uninstalled the forum and tried again. No joy. I then republished everything, closed browsers, cleared cache etc and still no joy!
By luck I went and right clicked home, selected Manage Domains and added localhost, and the http://localhost:12345/ now works, but home.aspx still doesn't.
It's the latest build of Umbraco running in the built in IIS7 Express. I'm really confused as to why it's refusing to see home.aspx - incidentally the child pages are fine, as is a test page on the same level as home.aspx.
The starter pack creates a related link for the home.aspx. I've tried removing this then recreating it - still no joy. Default.aspx works fine though and is effectively the Home page.
I know I posted this a week ago - but does anyone have any idea or experience of this behaviour before? I've started again, but I'd just like to understand what may have caused the problem once my project has become to large to 'restart'.
This seems very weird. Unfortunately I don't have experienced this issue before. But it could seem like uForum is acting a bit buggy on Umbraco 4.6.1? maybe...
Have you tried to republish both sites and choose the "republish entire site" from by right clicking "Content" (This is a long shot, I know). Otherwise have you tried having a look at the 404handlers.config to see if something has been written in there?
If you don't have a specific need for using uForum maybe you should checkout nForum, which has just been released.
Hope this helps - unfortunately I'm not able to explain you exactly why it happens.
I've did try and republish but that didn't make any difference. So I've take your advice and downloaded nForum which is .net 4 based, so hopefully won't get the same problem.

However, after I did this, all of a sudden the root of the test site didn't work - if I got to http://localhost:12345/Home.aspx or http://localhost:12345/ or http://localhost:12345/Default.aspx, I get a 404 node not found error.

Any ideas?

Hi Jan,
You're making a habit of helping me out!
I've did try and republish but that didn't make any difference. So I've take your advice and downloaded nForum which is .net 4 based, so hopefully won't get the same problem.
Thanks again,
Tony
