As above, deleting a tab from a content type doesn't delete the properties (within the DB) from under that tab which can result in a "property already exists" message.
If this is something you want to have the core team pay attention too then I think you're better of reporting it on codeplex since this is the issue tracker that they're checking and other people can vote it up if they also do consider this a bug.
I'm not sure whether this is to be considered a bug or something that is done intentionally.
If you decide you don't need a tab but still need the properties then it would not be desirable to have the properties be deleted also since you might want to place them on other tabs insted.
