    Sql Server CE4, is it a good idea for me to use?

    Hello there,

    I was wondering if anyone could supply any feedback on using Sql Server CE4 as the backend?

    I currently run my DB's in user instance mode on a VPS and am looking to make backups a bit easier. I am currently considering whether its worth while change to make or whether I am just going to make my life difficult due to things not working.

    Thank you

    It works well for me - I use it for the smaller sites on my VPS, eg. sites that don't have much content (and won't increase in the future), have low traffic. I know there is some limitations with SLQ CE such as database size and the amount of connections allowed. I also have a client who insisted on using shared hosting, which I had heard can sometimes cause problems with Umbraco, but its working fine there too.

    Hi Jonok, thank you for the feedback.

    I believe the limitations are as follows;

    Number simultaneous connection : 256
    Number of rows per table : Unlimited
    The total DB size : max 4 Gbs.

    It'd be a big Umbraco install to go the 4gbs I reckon. I could imagine the connection limit might get hit quicker tho. I suppose CE4 is somewhat targetted to shared hosting.

    You've given me the confidence to give it a try and I;ll see how it goes.

    Thank you
