I've been playing around with Umbraco and really like it. I do have a specific project in mind that I am wondering if you'd be able to give me feedback on. I've searched the forum but have not seen specific answers.
We have a resource library. We'd like to have a portal for users that presents content to them based on specific tags associated with their profile. So if they have the tag "hockey", they get blog posts about hockey and other articles related to hockey.
Through a an up-front survey we'll gather that personalization information and then build their "tag list" that specifies what content is displayed to them.
Now, I know with enough hacking you can make anything work... but would Umbraco be a helpful platform for this? Or would it be more of a hinderance to build on top of it?
Take a look at the SpinDoctor package/website: http://www.spindoctorhq.com - it's a commercial product, but sounds like it meets your requirements.
If you're looking to do it purely with Umbraco, it's still possible with custom development - following pretty much as you describe it, with displaying content based on taggings/preferences.
Is user-specific content personalization doable?
