    Windows Azure Performance Problems

    Greetings,

I have recently used the Umbraco Accelorator to create a new site on the cloud.  I am using 2 medium instances, and the Azure SQL database.  The speed performance seems to be horrid.  Espeically when trying to access teh blog section of teh site. Taking upwards up 12 seconds to pull up the page.  The time to first bite is usually preatty high.  3 seconds on the home page, and upwards of 7-10 when accessing the blog section.  I am using the ublogsy package for the blogs, and a bit of ajax on the home page to let the browswer do some of the work.

I have made sure to disable debug on umbro, and the compilation.  Other than ublogsy, i have installed Contour, Concierge, and a custom control i use on the backend for our editors to put in data.

It seems like a problem connectioning to the SQL azure database.  I have turned on cacheing on most of the ublogsy macros, and even though it helps, it doesn't seem right that it takes 10 seconds to pull them up initally.

Would appreciate any tips, I have spent 12 hours a day for the past week, tyring to get the speed to an acceptable area, but im just out of steam.

I haven't experienced any performance issues on Windows Azure so far, so haven't really looked into benchmarking.

Using profiler is not an option either as its not supported. Maybe you could create a test application that connects to the DB remotely to do some stress tests?

I take it you did configure your database to be in the same region as your hosted service is in (this one can seriously affect performance) ?

    Thanks for the reply,

I contacted microsoft and ran a few stress test, and short of missing a couple stats their was nothing out of the normal.

Just double checked my site, storage and sql, and they are all in South Central US.  I am starting to wonder if thier are too many macro's on the blogs page.  I am moving the blogs4umbraco back over to test its performance vs ublogsy.
