I might miss the windows by writing in here (Im first time at Umbraco) but correct me in that case and I will fix myself.
I am choosing Master Thesis topic now and I study in the field of Software Engineering and Management.
I have some idea to migrate our company's CMS into Umbraco ( from one swedish propriatry CMS without mentioning name). So I was thinking to make this as my Master Thesis topic as well, but not sure exactly how can I do it , because I will need to have some measures etc which at this point hard to see what are those measures I could base my mather thesis on.
May be you can come up with some suggestions ? Or may be you have some things on your tasks lists that could be transformed into Thesis work ?
Please get back to me in this post and we might find some mutual profit out of this :)
Hmmm, maybe it's worth investigating what exactly is the pain for your company if the keep using the old CMS? Is it hard to create new content? Is it too time-consuming? How easy can the current site be translated into other languages? (If that's relevant to the company of course)...Does the old CMS limit what you can do in order to optimize the site for better SEO results? In other words is the current CMS holding the business back from reaching it's full potential on the web? What are the benefits for the company when they are migrated to an open source platform instead of a system based on closed source? What are the costs?
Maybe you could ask the content editors about their experiences with the current CMS?
From your listed points I would mostly take the ones that explain financial benefits of opensource and limits of propriatary CMS e.g. by license update, technological limits and bugs that cant be fixed your own, time and money waste, parnter dependency etc.
What about CMIS ? Content Management Interoperability Services, I started to read yesterday and seems that is more related what we can call, a way to Migrate and Integrate your CMS from/with other system and CMSs.Seems its a new standard.
Now I am interested to know more about this CMIS and Umbraco, and if there is a chance to utilize currently existing CMIS approaches for Umbraco ,then perfect, otherwise I might be able to contribute a little in this field?
