Links to All External Websites Not Working Across Browsers
Hello,
I am new to Umbraco, but I swear I've searched the forums and haven't found the answer to my question :)
We have umbraco v
4.7.1 and it installed fine, and appears to be running just fine. We have set up a website, and are now adding links to external sites. However, after the page is published, the links only work when selecting "open in a new tab". They will not open the destination page in the same window, across all browsers. They are simple links with http:// and no "www". I have tried using all the link options in Umbraco.
Is there a setting other issue we're missing, which wouldn't allow external links to work?
Thanks for your reply! No, we're working from home, but I do notice that the a href tag gets stripped of any "target=" code when that's entered either via the editor or in html mode. I wouldn't think that would matter at all, but for what it's worth.

Hi Rocky
Question for you... Are you entering the data from within a corporate network which runs DNS services ? Random question I know but...
Recently we were adding a URL to a link in the Rich Text Editor and when saving the changes, the URL was being changed.
This did not occur when the change was performed from home.
The only answer we could come up with was that the URL was another of our corporate websites and the DNS / firewall was causing the problem.
I don't have a solution to how to avoid it, but thought I'd share our experiences to maybe relieve a bit of your frustration.
Cheers
Nigel
Hi Nigel,
Thanks for your reply! No, we're working from home, but I do notice that the a href tag gets stripped of any "target=" code when that's entered either via the editor or in html mode. I wouldn't think that would matter at all, but for what it's worth.
Anyway, thanks for giving it a try!
Rocky
Hi Folks,
FYI - we were able to fix this: We had some Jquery that was throwing a "preventDefault" action on links (part of our debugging script).
Maybe this will help someone else who runs into the same issue.
is working on a reply...
