I have a client who is currently running a site on Umbraco 4.7.1.1. At present the site is mainly content focussed, however they would like to extend the functionality to include a membership system. Now I know that Umbraco handles membership pretty well out of the box as I've used it on another site. However the catch here is that they have a large customer base and would like to import potentially up to 500,000 members into the system.
Has anyone had any experience of dealing with an Umbraco site with this many members? My biggest concern is performance as I guess this would be a massive hit to the tree view in the member backend. I'm wondering if it would be a better approach to store these users in a separate database and create a custom membership system, but I'd appreciate if anyone has any thoughts on this with regards to best practices or hardware setup recommendations.
Umbraco - Scalability for large number of members
