I've just noticed that if you create a new document/node the defaults are wide open and bear no relation to it's parent.
On our site i've finely grained a number of nodes for specific users, which means upon addition of this new node I have no choice but to go through my entire list of users and set the restrictions accordingly for this new node.
This is a bit of management nightmare!
Would it not make more sense, to always enforce the permissions of the nodes parent? A bit like in windows permissions for example?
Are you checking the box "replace on child nodes" when setting permissions? If you don't do that I think that is the issue.
But the handling of users in Umbraco could really use som TLC - perhaps it would be a good idea to add a feature request on the issue tracker about it.
