I've considered developing a v3 version too ... but alas the usual "not enough time at the moment" ... so if you do develop one, be sure to release it into the wild! :-D
Thanks for your reply even though it confirmed what i thought. Would it be best, do you think, to use the normal javascript for the maps or do it through jQuery?
Also, i've never created a project before, can you give me some tips on how to go about it?
As for the Google Map specifics - I was going to use their JavaScript API ... but if you want to use jQuery, then that's fine, as the Umbraco back-office already includes jQuery.
As you can imagine, its difficult to explain how to create a data-type in a quick forum reply, but there are resources out there ... and remember, any questions - just ask on the forum!
Google Maps v3
Hi,
Has anyone created a datatype with Google Maps v3 with geocoding and markers?
Our client needs a way of marking locations of offices and projects on a map but the examples are all Maps v2.
If not, i guess i'll have to create my own.
Thanks
Chris
Hi Chris,
As far as I'm aware there isn't a Google Maps data-type that uses the v3 API. The most full-featured one is here: http://our.umbraco.org/projects/backoffice-extensions/google-maps-datatype

Hi Chris,
Just checking... have you created a data-type before? If not, the not to worry there are few things to get you up to speed.
There are several videos on Umbraco.tv about how to create a data-type editor: http://umbraco.org/help-and-support/video-tutorials/developing-with-umbraco
Tim Geyssens' blog posts about DataEditorSettings will help too...

Thanks once again Lee,
I was hoping to knock something up quickly for the site i'm surrently working on but its much more indepth that i first thought.
I'll have to research it properly and then get started when 'i've got time'. that old chestnut.
