.net newbie - best way forward

    Hi

I have been using umbraco for just over a year and have enjoyed it thoroughly. It has up to this point done everything i needed to do.

Now i have a project which requires me to extend the dashboard, so i am going to have to get my hands dirty.

THE PROBLEM: i am a .net newbie! - i have a history of classic asp, but have not really touched .net/visual studio apart from the odd bit here and there.

HELP: i am starting to go through the Umbraco developer videos and such like and am confident that once i get going i will be allright, but i need some [embarassingly] basic help here.

While i know the web is full of tutorials and sample projects, i do need to focus my initial learning on .net development for Umbraco. so with that in mind:

    • How best to get started on extending Umbraco?
    • How do i set up a project in VS for Umbraco?

Also, once i understand the requirements/set-up for Umbraco, i can look on .net forums/tutorials for general help, i know, but when i am searching for tutorials to help me on the way, what are the latest 'buzzwords' that will help me identify tutorials which employ the more recent practices and methods so i am not too retro? - Razor? MVC? etc

I hope someone in this most friendly of forums will be able to give me some pointers to get me going

[think of the karma i will be able to bestow over the coming weeks/months]

    thanks

For introducing see at the wiki there's all you need setting up umbraco with VS.

The other startpoints are www.asp.net/mvc and www.asp.net/webmatrix

    Have fun learning dude :)

    thanks toni

i have to confess, i had not looked in the wiki.

i have found previously that the pages i have needed are empty.

i have to understand a bit about 'using namespaces' and then i will be underway.

any other tips from anyone else will be gratefully recieved.
