I'm a long time Umbraco user - now trying to get a handle on how good others find Blog4Umbraco to be currently. Do you find it works well with Umbraco 4.7? Will it still work with 5.0 when that is release? Are there any common issues other are experiencing with it in terms of reliability or lacking functionality?
Also, is anyone doing blogging another way on Umbraco?
@RichGreen Ublogsy looks nice - I can't see any mention of it supporting desktop blogging client software (such as Windows Live Writer). Do you know if it supports that via an appropriate API?
There are alot of people using Blog4Umbraco so obviously it works, but also it seems that alot of different people have worked on the project and taken over it from time to time, I have installed it in the past on a few occasions but never without some problems. One issue for me is that comments were held in an external database table, which doesn't make it easy to use them and for users to administrate them.
Comments are also published by default which doesn't work in my cases, there are work arounds for all of these problems, like downloading the latest version from CodePlex etc.
However uBlogsy has been written from ground up, highly rated and unless you have a specific reason not to use it I would certainly check this out.
In answer to your post above, uBlogsy just uses Umbraco nodes, hence it works with the Umbraco API and also as you can use Livewriter with Umbraco you can use it with uBlogsy (not done this but can't see any reason why it wouldn't work).
How good is Blog4Umbraco?

Hey Paul,
Welcome to the forum!
I've had nothing but problems with Blog4Umbraco, I would recommend you take a look at http://our.umbraco.org/projects/starter-kits/ublogsy instead, it's new and highly rated.
As for it working for V5, doubt it would work out the box but I'm sure Anthony will be keen to upgrade the package.

Thanks for the welcome and prompt feedback. That's a real pity to hear. Can you give some insights into the issues you've experienced?
I'm also hopeful others will share some comments too as I presume each person will have different goals for it and possibly differing results.

Should add, these are just my thoughts! I'm sure there's many users who love Blog4Umbraco.
Would be great to hear from someone who's used both.
