Just seeking some constructive feedback please.

We are to have a members area which has a "Wine Club" component. Members will be able to select preferred wine types, price ranges etc. 

The easy solution is to record a number of custom member properties for each type of wine, price bracket, etc. However this could lead to reasonably large member profile.

But I have read a little bit about member to node relations and wondered if this might be a better solution.

One consideration is that we intend integrating MailChimp and may want to send targetted emails in the future based on member selections.

Can anyone provide their thoughts re pros / cons / data management / etc.
