Newsletter pug-ins, disappointed lack of packages.

Hi Guys I have been using Umbraco for a few months now and love its fexliblity, hoever I have not been able to find packages to do things that I would consider standard in other cms systems like word press. I have been looking for a news letter package so that form the umbraco back end I the administrator can send an email out to a list of users that have left their e-mail address on the website.

I am going to do this by creating a custom section and it will probably take a cupple hours, but why are there not a lot more ready to go STABLE packages to do simple tasks like event calenders and mailing lists ect..am I missing something.

Why not build what you need and submit here for the benefit of the wider community?

    Hi Ayo

I agree with Darren - why not share your stuff with the community? Perhaps you could also find some people interesting in contributing to make your package even better :)

When that is said I think that the lack of newsletter packages is because most people and companies etc. are using CampaignMonitor, MailChimp etc. to handle their e-mail subscriptions and campaigns etc. - In my experience it's getting more rare that the clients wants something custom build to handle their e-mail campaigns etc. - So I think it might be a good idea to look into how the Umbraco backoffice could be integrated with those services mentioned perhaps? - But a simple way to administer could probably also benefit some - so basically I guess I'm saying "Go for it!" :-)

Besides the main focus for Umbraco is to be a great CMS that is good at handling web-content and not bloat it with all kinds of other stuff once it's installed.

    /Jan
