What kind of store do you need to build? What does the shop need to support? How many products do you need to manage?
If the Commerce for Umbraco package is not stable I think you will quickly gain something from looking at either uWebshop or Tea Commerce, which both have some rather cheap license fees.

I'm a big fan of UCommerce (http://our.umbraco.org/projects/website-utilities/ucommerce)
I do believe this is the only free one, but I'm not sure if it's stable, as it's an old project that was picked up and updated last year
