Extracting an image or thumbnail from PDF documents

    Greetings to all,

After a couple of years (!) of hesitating I'm finally switching everything to umbraco and I couldn't be happier about it! The only important thing I cannot find yet as a project is an image/thumbnail extractor from a PDF document, which is very useful to me and to a lot of my projects.

    Is there something similar available?

If not, can someone help me get a jumpstart with a "hello world" input control, so I can develop this functionality myself? I actually have the code that opens the PDF screenshots the first page at the requested size and quality and can also apply an alpha image on it (like shadow, pagecurl or something). The code is on .NET 2.0 and it requires Ghostscript on server.

Should I go for a backend extension? Would it be simpler with a user control? I'm still a bit confused on what method I should use to achieve a certain functionality.

    Thanks on any input :)
