Listing Child nodes on a tab

Similar to how Hendy Demonstrated how helpful it is for editors to see relations in his wonderful 24days post
and given that the sure to be god like Container document types is probably still quite a way off.

Would it not be helpful to have a datatype that just lists child nodes from the current node on a tab and provides a link to them? sometimes editors miss that tiny little expander arrow next to the node. and it could be handy as a stop gap.

an Xpath node lister? is this a crazy idea?
I know there are things like the uComponents Datatype Grid and also Farm's Embedded content, but sometimes you have to steer away from these because the dont support many of the handier data-types.

anyway, curious to know what others think. Happy to be put in my place :)

    Hi Tim,

Interesting idea, wonder if hiding the items in the tree, and including a single create button, and delete buttons next to each item would be useful (oh and sorting) ? wouldn't be too difficult to implement, and would offer similar functionality to Emebedded Content / DataTypeGrid but every possible datatype would be compatable !

Was that the sort of thing you were thinking ?

(would need another datatype on the child items to be able to easily return back to the parent list)

    Hi there,

Take a look at the Child Nodes Table View project; I haven't used it myself yet, but it certainly looks like it should do what you're looking for!

Let us know how (if) it works for you... Best of luck!

    Hi Hendy,

yep, exactly what I was thinking and more. Hadn't thought about navigating back to the list from the child - that'd be pretty handy.

@Funka!m thanks! will definitely check out the Child Nodes project - looks pretty much what I'm after, I did have a look through some of the newly added projects but missed this one. Makes me think of what other gems may lie buried within the projects pages.

@Hendy - perhaps work giving Gilad a bump and seeing whether or not he's still maintaing the Child Node project and if he's still up for collab on it? I'd be keen to help too.
