Google Webmaster Tools setup - HELP :(

I should first preface this by saying I'm not a developer, I'm the content manager for my company's website.

We are very new to Umbraco and have GA already set up, but I'm having the most difficult time getting Google and Bing Webmaster tools setup. I already asked my developer to add the head tracking code but that is not working. My developer is very sensitive about changing anything on the back end, is very new to Umbraco, and has basically left me on my own to fix anything.

Right now, the easiest option for me to set up both tools is to upload an HTML file. The problem is, I have no idea where I need to upload this. If I upload in the media library, the URL won't be verified. I'm afraid this is something my developer will have to do, but ultimately tell me he doesn't want to change anything on the back end.

Is there an easy way to explain to this? We are using Umbraco v4. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi FK

Unless you have access to the system, this is a developer only task.

If you have in the back-end of Umbraco a settings icon next to Content and Media icons, then it is possible you could do something, if you do not, then it is not an Umbraco issue, but one where to verify that you are the owner, you need access to the file system. (OK, this check does cause problems for genuine people, but it is there as a safe-guard).

Have you checked that the Google Analytics code is in the document, open a page on the site F12 look in head section to see if it is there. (sorry if you already know this, just trying to get to a point quicker).

You say in the title you want Webmaster Tools, this can be set up via Google Analytics, without additional code, just by linking it, however if you are experiencing a problem with that part, then it can be a different issue entirely.

If Analytics code is in place, post the error that you have and it may be easier to help.

    Best regards

    G
