Is it possible to implement an "outsite" ecommerce solution within Umbraco?
Hello!
I'm considering creating an e-commerce website using Umbraco, but I'm farily new in Umbraco. I see there are a few solutions for e-commerce within Umbraco, but I'm wondering if it is possible to use an outside solution for the e-commerce as opposed to using one umbraco package. For example, opencart or any other open source solution.
This is possible. But you have to create all the integration with Umbraco yourself.
May I ask why you want a external solution.
There are some excellent e-commerce plugins for Umbraco. Both open source (Merchello,uWebshop) as commercial (Teacommerce, uCommerce, Flexcommerce)
Thank you for your response. I will look into the options that you wrote - especially the open source ones. To answer your question, I'm interested in extending the out-of-the-box solutions, and having the product listing functionality feed a backoffice at the same time as it is feeding the e-commerce site. That can be done with other open source solutions and that is why I was asking about outsiders :)
May I ask you:
1. Do you have any experience with either of the solutions that you mention?
2. If so, do you know which one is more customizable for allowing me to do what I intend to do?
3. What do you mean by "create the integration with Umbraco yourself"?
I would advise to install both open source projects and try them out for a day and see which one fits your needs the best.
uWebshop used to be commercial but they went open source at the end of last year. Merchello is the most recent one, and I think more actively developed, but I can be wrong of course.
For integrating external backoffices I think it will be needed to write some custom code, whatever solution you choose eventually.
