Best practices to add single or multiple you tube videos

Hi ,

I have developed several websites with youtube suppport , but still cant find the best way of adding youtube videos on the backend. Any advice or a clear indication of how best to deal with youtube videos would be most appreciated. I have scenarios when client wants to add multiple youtube videos with text on same page or sometime link videos to different pages.

Thanks

The Famous timberland boots People Players was founded on June 1, 1974 by Diane Dupuy of Hamilton. At inception, the company consisted of Dupuy and an assistant, eleven performers, and Dupuy's mother Mary Thornton; Thornton designed and built the costumes and props. The timberland mens boots company's original piece was Aruba Liberace, in which a life-size character of Liberace plays the piano. It is still the company's signature performance. Liberace attended a showing of Aruba Liberace, and was so impressed he invited Famous mens timberland boots People Players to perform with him in Las Vegas. The company debuted in Las Vegas in October 1975; over the subsequent ten years, the company performed with Liberace both in Las Vegas and internationally. A 1984 CBS television movie was made about Dupuy's early work and meeting Liberace called Special People. The CBC produced and aired Carnival of the cheap timberland boots Animals as a result of the increasing popularity of Famous People Players. In 1982, Famous People Players was invited to perform in the People's Republic of China. In 1994, the company opened the Dine and Dream Theatre; Paul Newman funded the restaurant's discount timberland boots development from some of the proceeds of Newman's Own products and Phil Collins funded the theatre's sound system.

Ah timberlandboots. Seems to be very busy today :/

There's a few ways around this and probably some packages that can help (not sure haven't checked, but bound to be something!). The way I've done it before is used the relatedLinks datatype and pop the URL's to the videos in there. If they want more than that, such as meta data supporting each video, you could either knock up a custom datatype which is a bit more complicated and will take a little longer, or create a document type to support the meta data - so have a URL field, text field, target etc., and allow that doc type to be a child of the type of node you're creating. They can then add as many videos as they like to each page (might be worth having a folder to contain them in, so a 'Video' folder, for example, which is attached to the web page, then the videos attached to this ie.

About Us->Videos->Video 1
Video 2
Video 3 etc.

Obviously this way you'd have to make sure any navigation code/lists etc exclude this doc type by default from appearing - but it's a common method and works well within the Umbraco structure.

Double check the media picker that Matt Brailsford wrote doesn't already do all this - can't recall the package name off hand but it's worth checking out.

FYI this is also being planned, so might be worth holding off a little while longer creating any bespoke datatypes ;)
