If you're using an early version of XSLTsearch then you might not have the best code. The current version (2.7, noted at the top of the file) has the following to handle all sorts of situations automatically.
You can get the latest version of XSLTsearch from the umbraco package repository or from my site at http://www.percipientstudios.com/xsltsearch.aspx
XSLT Search - FAO: Doug
Doug,
Am I using it incorrectly or is the XSLT Search package missing some code to allow you to set a different source node?
The variable is there but the code to actually use a different source seems incorrect.
It's currently;

Should it not be?;

Sorry if Im barking up the wrong tree.
