I have XSLTsearch working for everything that is built directly into my website. That is the limitation that I'm concerned with. I have a webstore with items for sale. The store is completely DB driven and hosted on another server. We just link to it with www.domain.com/store.
Is there any way to get XSLTsearch to pull back those items?

The store has a search bar as well. Does Umbraco have an API for searching the content of the site?

XSLT Search can only search in xml so unless you write something which will convert your db driven content to xml it won't work. You could try ezSearch. It uses examine and you could write your own indexer to search in. More info here: http://thecogworks.co.uk/blog/posts/2013/february/examiness-hints-and-tips-from-the-trenches-part-8-custom-indexing/
