Umbraco back office cookie - should you enable this for Umbraco Rest API?

Hi,

I am installing this package -

Whats the reason in using Umbraco back office cookie by adding app.UseUmbracoCookieAuthenticationForRestApi(ApplicationContext.Current);

Is there is a disadvantage in doing this?
