    Cache (the umbraco.config file): Failed!

    Hello,

I'm having some trouble installing Umbraco, I get as far as Step 3/5: Validating File Permissions and I get an error Cache (the umbraco.config file): Failed!

I have checked the permissions and Netwok Service has full control and I have also checked in IIS that the AppPool is using Network Service.

N.B. I have been using Umbraco for the past year on and off and i'm a big fan, it has all I need in a CMS, thanks Umbraco.

I would be grateful of any help on this.

    Thank you

    DJV

You should give IIS_IUSRS permissions :-)

    Kipusoep,

Thanks for your reply, I'll give that a go tonight and I'll let you know how I get on.

    Thanks

    Kipusoep,

I tried assigning IIS_IUSRS permissions, but the group IIS_IUSRS seems to be missing.

I'm using IIS6 on a Window Server within a VPS.

I would be grateful of any ideas.

    Thank you

    David

    Hi David,

it is the Internet User Guest Account (not group), you should be able to find it when you click on add users in the security tab, then click on advanced and click on 'find now' without any parameters. It's the IUSR_[Your-Computer-Name] account.

If you are using Umbraco 4.0.* you should also give the NETWORK SERVICE service account permissions on the required folders, or if you are installing 4.5.* the IIS AppPool\[Your-AppPool-Name]. Have a look at some of the install documentation here: http://our.umbraco.org/wiki/install-and-setup.

    Hope that helps,

    Sascha

    What about IUSR or IUSR_{Computername}?

    Hi,

I've given IUSR_[Computername] permissions and NETWOK SERVICE permissions but i still get an error on Validating File Permissions step 3/5

    - Checking default folder permissions:
    ./css : Success!
    ./config : Success!
    ./data : Success!
    ./media : Success!
    ./masterpages : Success!
    ./xslt : Success!
    ./data/packages/installed/installedPackages.config : Success!
    ./data/packages/created/createdPackages.config : Success!

    - Checking optional folder permissions for packages:
    ./bin : Success!
    ./umbraco : Success!
    ./usercontrols : Success!
    ./data/packages : Success!

    - Cache (the umbraco.config file): Failed!

    - Creating folders: Success!

I'm installing Umbraco v4.0.4.2 on MS Server 2003 so after reading the above documents I gave C:WINDOW\Temp NETWOK SERVICE permissions but unfortunatly it didn't work.

    Thanks

    David

Yes, try a clean and fresh install, preferably in the inetpub\wwwroot folder.

You can also try to remove the umbraco.config file (maybe it's locked)?

After a new download, clean install, and new database everything works as it should. I just want to thank everyone for their help.

    Thank you.

    Regards

    David
