An error occurred while processing your request

Whenever I try to upload a picture, this comes up: An error occurred while processing your request.

    laura,

what version of umbraco are you running?  Also can you paste the full error this may give better indication as to what is going wrong.

    Regards

Thank you Ismail. The Umbraco version is: umbraco v 4.0.4.2 (Assembly version: 1.0.3811.17115) Copyright © 2001.

The error doesn't have an error number - it just says "An error occurred while processing your request"...

    I hope you can help.

I'd hazard a guess that it could be a permissions issue with the media folder. Check if the user .net runs under (usually "NETWORK SERVICE") has read, write and modify permissions on the media folder.

Thank you Tim. Where do I find NETWORK SERVICE?

    laura,

did you install umbraco or someone else? is it installed on your pc/laptop or on a remote server? If installed by someone else on remote server then can you ask that person (possibly your system / network admin) to ensure that the umbraco install directory has network service user assigned with read / write also to propogate permissions.  If its installed locally on your pc or you have access to the server that its installed on you need to goto the directory its installed in and right click properties and from popup select security then click edit then add and type in network service then click check names then select read / write checkboxes and click apply that will give network service permissions.

    Regards

    Ismial
