Location of your (remote) database server

I'm trying to install Umbraco on a web server using a database (MS SQL 2008) on a separate server. Both servers are on the same local network with my hosting provider. I'm using WPI, and can't figure what to put in the 'Location of your database server' field under 'Database Server' on step 2 of the installation.

I know the path to SQL on the remote server – D:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL – and, obviously, the IP Address. But nothing I've tried works: installation always fails because WPI can't connect to the database server.

    Can anybody help me?

    Hi Robin

It's the servername that should be used. So if you know the IP address of the machine I think this is what you should be using in the "server name" field.

I hope this works out for you.

    /Jan

Thanks, Jan. Yes, that did help as it enabled me to narrow down the problem to having the incorrect IP for the local connection to the SQL Server.
