    Umbraco for Intranet?

Hi all, I'm currently in the process of implementing a new Intranet for our Casino, serving about 400-500 people. I've narrowed my choices down to DNN vs Umbraco (although mojoPortal seems to be a clean, simple CMS). I don't like the proprietary sknning in DNN, nor the fact that it is coded in VB.NET (not that it matters at the end of the day,. just preference....). Umbraco seems to have a cleaner, and leaner structure and the documentation seems to be up to date, and more complete. Not sure out of the two, which one could be impletemted faster?

The Intranet would be consist of:

    -News
    -Employee Reminders
    -Weather Reports
    -Voting (various)
    -Forum (TBD)
    -Blog (TBD)
-Each department (about 6-7) would have their own section to post info
-And of course "more"...nothing too crazy for right now.

Could this be implemented using Umbraco with litlte headaches? Thank you for any help! Looking forward to becoming familair with this great platform...

    Thanks!
    Sean.

My two cents: you can do it in either Umbraco or DNN, DNN I haven't used in years but my feeling is that a lot of what you want to do (forums, blog, voting) you will find ready to use modules/addins that will get you up and running quickly in DNN.

On the otherhand, Umbraco can do all that to, but you will need to look a bit harder to find pre-existing modules(packages) to add-in, or write your own, but it can still be done (in fact anything can be done since you can resort to writing code if you need to).

If the goal is to get up and running fastest, I'd say DNN will win - if the goal is to have a lean system that performs well when it is done, Umbraco will win. In all of my experience with DNN the slow performance and code bloat is the thing I couldn't get past - I don't care how easy it is to get up and running, if its a hog (and DNN is a hog), I wouldn't use it, personally.

Thanks for your input. If I'm not mistaken though, Umbraco has quite a few of these modules available? Blog, forum and basic content publishing. More or less 6 departments would have their own page (setup maybe as their own blog) that they can edit and add to as they please. I would think setup speed and ease wise, both DNN and Umbraco would be on the same level. However, Umbraco would have the advantage of cleaner implementation and better structure (and better admin?).

I got Umbraco up and running with less headache versus DNN.
