"Could not load ISAPI filters for site" during installation

This error message was received when trying to start the Umbraco installation wizard after a manual install of 4.7.0

    Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1
    SQL Server 2005 Express
    ASP.NET version 4.0
    IIS 7

After researching this forum and StackOverflow I commented out the System.Web.Extensions section of web.config. At this point the wizard opened and displayed its background. However there was no text on the page and there was no way to proceed further.

I checked in c:\Windows\Assemblies and discovered that System.web.Extensions was at version 3.5.0.0 - I would have expected it to be 4.0.0.0 as I had installed .NET Framework 4.

Can anyone suggest a way forward?

    hey Mike,

    Welcome to the forum!

Did you set the App Pool to be .Net 4?
