    Where can i find documentation?

I'm getting started with Umbraco and i'm finding the most frustrating thing about it is the lack of documentation! A few weeks back i was able to find some PDF's which were quite helpful but now i can't seem to find any. I see there is a wiki but i'm looking for something more structured - something that covers all areas progressively. Sure there are videos but they are mostly for subscribers.

So where can i find structured documentation???

    Hey Paul,

Agree that documentation can be tricky to find, however there is certainly a great community willing to help you out, however I know it can be frustrating.

Have you watched all the free started videos? http://umbraco.com/products/umbracotv?redirected=true

As well as the first 2 here http://umbraco.com/help-and-support/video-tutorials/umbraco-fundamentals/building-the-cws-site.aspx

Also there's a great book available on Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/Umbraco-Users-Guide-Nik-Wahlberg/dp/0470560827

Yeah, i've looked through some videos but there's just not enough info available.

The book looks just like what i'm looking for, however i find it... dissapointing to say the least that a product like this does not have standardized or structured documentation available! :\ Usually products come with some kind of manual. This is beginning to turn me away from Umbraco as i'm spending more time searching for answers than using it. This is a test drive for me...

Thank you for your answer, perhaps i'll have to be more patient with the forum answers :)

    Paul,

If you are looking for documentation from an editor's perspective, there is the Editor's Manual which does a good job on the basic editorial process.

    Hi Paul,

I agree it can be a bit frustrating to find stuff when you first start out!

I can heartily recommend the book, it covers a lot of the basics of working with Umbraco, as well as a few more advanced topics. I found looking at the blogs in the Umbraco blog pipe very useful as well. There's a full list of all the blogs here: http://blog.hendyracher.co.uk/umbraco-blogs-and-pipes/

The documentation thing is something that's being addressed in the next version (v5). There's some very good API documentation that the core guys are puttiung up alongside the work in progress.
