I'm looking for some advice for an Umbraco 4.7 site. The site in question will need the ability to handle large traffic spikes without impacting performance.
What I'm looking at is 60-70 page requests per second for at least 3 minutes at peak level, and something like 10 page requests per second sustained for a further 10 minutes.
So, the site we are working with has these kinds of peaks occasionally, and we need to move it to hosting which isn't phenomenally expensive.
Does anyone have any experience with the kinds of minimum server requirements we're looking at for this?
I'm guessing a dedicated server (?), but kind of CPU + Cores? RAM?
We were looking at 2.4Ghz Hex core Xeon, 24 GB RAM, RAID SSD, but this seems overkill to me. But I don't have much experience with sites that have traffic profiles like this.
Any advice/experience is greatly greatly appreciated!
