    Installing Umbraco V5 Beta 1

    Hi,

I have now for a while been trying to install Umbraco V5 Beta 1, but without success. I have installed iis express and used it to run the site, which I have downloaded from codeplex.

Whenever I try to access access the site it times out. Once in a while it displays the frontpage, but when I then click on the install link, it again times out.

I have made sure that the app pool is running in Integrated mode, anything else I should be aware of?

    Ah, ok.

When you unzipped the download did you make sure you unblocked the zip file?

What do you mean about unblocking, I just extracted it, like any other zip-file?

That could be your problem then.

    Thanks,

I tried to unblock it, and extract the files to a new folder and setup a site there. Just for the test, I set the permissions for everyone to fullcontrol, but it still just times out.

Stephan, it just keeps trying to load the install page and doesn't get any where. I have tried with the regular iis setup for .net 4.0 and integrated mode. I have tried setting the security to FullControll for all users, and I have tried using IIS Express, but with no luck.

Have you checked the Windows event log for any clues?

Can’t see anything obvious in the event log...I have progressed a little...

I can now get to the sunburst "Welcome to the Umbraco installation" page but all the buttons are hidden? but they are there as I roughly remembered where they were from older installs...I also get a white/blank bar across the top of the screen.

The page also takes FOREVER to load really very very slow...the next step just hits me with a connection reset

I have just looked at the event viewer, and nothing is present. To make sure I have cleared the log, and tried to load the page.

I receive the excat same error as Stephen.

I found the error to be AVG antivirus.

I uninstalled it, and installed another antivirus program, and it then worked.

    Wow, what a pita.

Very glad you found it though, I think this cropped up on one of the hackdays.

Nice one Philip, that done the trick for me also - what a pain having to uninstall AVG though...

I know some of the other guys have been using

    www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

instead of avg and I *believe* they don't have the same issue with v5

As alternative virus scanner in addition to Avast I also think NOD32 and Microsoft Essentials seem to be popular among other members of the community.
