Using umbraco 4.7.1 and latest version of examine in win2k8 with iis 7.5. The network service account has read write permissions to the website directory and the c:\windows\temp directory and the website app pool identity is network service.
When i try to rebuild an index i get the following error:
An error occurred recreating the index set,Access to the path
'D:\inetpub\wwwroot\mysite\App_Data\TEMP\ExamineIndexes\Internal\Index\lucene-1fd891b8-test.lock' is denied
Its possible that something that was accessing the file has crashed and not released the lock properly. Have you tried restarting IIS? If it is an IIS process locking the file, that should clear the lock and allow you to delete the file.

Right sorted like a bonehead forgot to give modify permissions to network service did give read/write but not modify sorted now.
