So I get to a page that says the following, BUT there is no "set up your new website" button. What's up with that? Not too impressed. Took 4 1/2 hours, and 3 attempts to instal.

You're seeing the wonderful page because your website doesn't contain any published content yet.
So get rid of this page by starting umbraco and publishing some content. You can do this by clicking the "set up your new website" button below.
Stick with it, Umbraco is fantastic but it takes time to understand like any product, it's not a Wizard or instant webstie like you might expect with Wordpress etc.

Welcome to the forum.
You can go to your website admin panel by adding /umbraco/ to your root path so something like http://yourwebsitename/umbraco/
I would recommend:
1) Installing via the Web Platform Installer
2) Watching these free videos http://umbraco.com/help-and-support/video-tutorials/introduction-to-umbraco.aspx
