    Umbraco 5 Azure

Absolutely terrible there isn't a prominent place on community or front door about Azure. Isn't this a prominent .NET app or is it going away? The developer site mentions using Web Accelerator where Github for v5 says don't use it. Searching for Umbraco 5 Azure, Umbraco 5 Azure Install Deploy on any site including there forums and wiki ends up with fail.

The one useful post comes from Steve someone who packaged up a more friendly version but that didn't have any information whatsoever.

Azure has been out for how many years now? Can someone point me or write-up a Umbraco v5 to Azure install for those good with VS2010 MVC and starting out with Azure?

I'm right behind you. I'm an MVC pro, and am prepared to roll my own CMSish pieces for a site, but thought i'd try to avoid reinventing the wheel. Umbraco sounds great, but I'm not finding the amazing info. I did specifically search for Umbraco Azure, becaues I knew it was one of the first CMS systems made compatible with Azure, that landed me at http://umbraco.com/azure. I then went over to the github pages you did and also found that note that I can't use the accelerator for V5. I then found reference to http://umbraco.codeplex.com/releases/view/81440 which has a note that video content will be availible in "February" and just sends me back to this discussion board. I'm trying http://our.umbraco.org/forum/core/umbraco-5-general-discussion and searching for Azure.. not sure if you've been in there yet.

I may just download it and see where I can get....

So that search idea I had isn't working, because the search is global, not just for the v5 forum. Bummer :/

I am someone else that does not understand what is going on here. Does Umbraco 5 support Azure? are we waiting for some one to contribute a "Hive" provider for Azure, what gives?  Here are some guys working on a Hive Azure provider http://labs.thesedays.com/blog/2011/11/25/a-blob-storage-hive-provider-for-umbraco-5-beta/  Does any one know if this is in the Umbraco 5.1 version. I tried installing 5.1 from the web platform installer and got a local version, of course it doesnt work either so that is not much help.

    Hi guys,

I know documentation could be better but v5 is still very new and deploying it to Azure is still a WIP (but should soon be a breeze :-))

The accelerator approach was used for Umbraco v4, but its no longer required for v5 since it can run without by use of Azure Hive providers.

Morten has been working on a Azure Hive solution which has been open sourced here:

    http://umbraco.codeplex.com/SourceControl/network/Forks/sitereactor/AzureHive

You can also find a manual on how to setup your deployment here:

    http://umbracoonazure.codeplex.com/

    Thanks Lennart,

I think I get it, from my perspective deployment to Azure seems like "the feature" but thats not really the case for everyone.

I looked thu the documentation you provided for deploying to Azure and it talks about moving the SQL database to SQL Azure. Is this how V5 works? It uses a SQL Azure database? Have I misinterpreted the intentions of  V5. My expectation was that SQL Azure would not be required and table and blob storage would be used instead. Is this correct?

    Thanks

    Noel

    Hi Noel,

The installation guide uses SQL Azure as its still a valid solution for data storage.

In Morten's Azure Hive solution you will find a table storage provider which could replace the Nhibernate persistence provider (and the need for SQL Azure).

Although the provider hasn't been fully tested yet, I thought it was nearly complete, so I recommend you try it out :-)

    Hello,

I followed documentation included on Codeplex Umbraco 5 download http://umbracoonazure.codeplex.com/ and when I complete the step 3.3.3 Publishing the Web Role, I got error 403 when tried to runn site from Azure.

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Big Kudos Lennart for putting that up there. I know it may not seem like much but when evaluating a whole slew of possibilities gaps like before just put off contention. I'm gonna go head and roll a site up now and see what we got.
