    Can I install Umbraco 4.7.1 using the Web Platform installer?

    Hi, I have got an Umbraco site up and running on a test server.  It is Umbraco version 4.7.1 with SQL Server Express.  However I now want to copy all of this onto another Server (Live server), but the Web Platform Installer only installs version 5 of Umbraco. 

    If I go ahead and install version 5....

    Can I just drop my files from the test server in after the install of version 5?

    Are they compatable with this later version?

    Or do I need to manually install version 4.7.1 on LIVE to make things easier when I copy my files from the test server?

    Please help!! :-)

    Hi!

    You can't upgrade the v4.7 project to v5 in an easy way. You should XCOPY all files from your test server to the live server and copy the database as well.

    Hi,

     

    thanks for the reply, I started to do a manual install of 4.7 - i've installed UltiDev Web Server Pro, but not sure what to do next?, I presume I need to bowse a web page or something to run the install utility? how do I do this please?

    I have ensured I have the following installed/present: .net, ALAX, windows installer 3.1, umbraco files from the test server
