    Installing umbraco 4 - connection issue!

    Hi Guys,

    I am going through the Umbraco Configuration Wizard and it cannot connect to my database on my VPS...

    It will load to 5% then throw the error "Database connection initialisation failed."

    Have contacted my provider to see if I should be using a different name but they say no the server IP is what you should be using - yet I have this issue...


    Please help! I have been trying to fix this for 4 days!

    Hi Jordy,

    Difficult to know what the problem might be.  Do you have anything like SQL Server Management Studio (Express) available to you? Could be worth seeing if you can connect to the database outside of Umbraco (e.g. there might be a better error message).

    Things to consider... is the database server accessible from your VPS? Does it have a different port number? Are the username & password correct?
