If you try to save the XSLT file from the XSLT screen, do you get a better error? If you can paste the full error you're getting it might provide a hint.
Also do you only get the error in the [COG]Navigation file or does it happen with others as well?

You are a star! Didn't think to try and save out the XSLT again. The issue was FullTextSearch.dll was missing so I installed but now when I do a search of my site I'm getting:
I haven't actually used the FullTextSearch package before - I wonder if it's compatible with 4.7.1.1? I think it's open source if you needed to debug it. Also you might try to see if you can get a better error message, maybe try adding ?umbdebugshowtrace=1 to the page URL and checking the trace might give you a more meaningful error. Maybe try turning customErrors off as well.
4.7 to 4.7.11 upgrade xslt issues
Hi I am trying to upgrade from 4.7 to 4.7.1.1 and getting:
Error parsing XSLT file: \xslt\[COG]Navigation.xslt errors everywhere.

As mentioned in the installation notes but still getting them
