May be I don't understand somethig or there is another way to do it, but how it stands now it is a huge no no for new Umbraco. Basically I can create my site on my local machine or on dev server but there is no way to move it to production server. Who would start using Umbraco in these conditions?
Hi there, the latest build at nightly.umbraco.org/.../...652-Umbraco51WebApp.zip which is being tested for RTM release should resolve the issue of having to delete the App_Data\Umbraco\HiveConfig\ConfigurationCache*.bin files when changing the connection string
Problem with copying Umbraco5.1 installation
Hi guys,
I'm trying to copy Umbraco 5.1 to a new machine.
now when I try to run the umbraco I have a message "It looks like Umbraco isn't installed yet"
when I try to go to http://localhost/umbraco
it redirects me to http://localhost/Install/Default
with "The resource can not be found error".
Do I need to do anything else?
+1 zakhar. Just tried to do same and problem is same.
I wonder is it because it's beta? Have anyone tried to copy 5.0.1?
Anyone can help with that?

i've copied 5.0.1 with no problems - so it oughta be the new version.
Yes, I copied 5.0.1 with exactly the same steps, it works. Something is broken in 5.1:(
There is another topic about the same problem in Umbraco 5 forum here: http://our.umbraco.org/forum/core/umbraco-5-general-discussion/30890-umbraco-51-%28beta%29-cant-connect-to-restored-DB-after-moving-to-another-server?p=0#comment114462
