A better phrasing might bewhatdon't I need when migrating a site?
For example, I have a large amount of the following files:
media/3224/Cached/index.xml (times the number of media items)
data/umbSearch/*
My rough, uninformed, yet brazenly communicated presumption is that these are dynamic in nature and recreated as needed. I can save a whole lot of time if I skipped backing these files up.
Don't bother to backup any any "cached" folders and their contents as these are created by ImageGen and would be re-created as necessary when the site is live.
The umbSearch/* folders may not be necessary as you can re-create the index manually after restoring the site. Just be sure these are the lucene index files you're not including in your backups. Anything other than the index files would need to backed up.

Hey Mr. Admin -- I meant to click "Solved," though, yes I do like the ineffable Mr Robar's response. Can this be updated appropriately? Thanks!
(My second karmic error here though I don't fear karmic reprisal, at least metaphysically...)
is working on a reply...
