product did not install successfully download file failed signature verification

    Hello,

I get this error message when trying to install umbraco using the Web Platform Installer.

    'Umbraco CMS 5

product did not install successfully download file failed signature verification and maybe have been tampered with'

Any ideas how I can solve this?

    thanks.

    Hi Michael,

Umbraco 5 has been discontinued (see http://umbraco.com/follow-us/blog-archive/2012/6/13/v5-rip.aspx/), so the advice is to work with the latest v4 product (currently 4.8) as that is the version that will be actively maintained going forward.

    I've download umbraco 4.8 from http://umbraco.codeplex.com/releases/view/86586

Is there an installation guide for a manual installation?

    thanks.

The getting started document is pretty helpful, but if you have webmatrix installed you can just right-click the folder and select 'open as website in Web Matrix', which is the route I usually take for a quick install.  Alternatively you can still use the Web Platform Installer but just make sure you select version 4.8.0 (do a search for Umbraco in the WPI console and it should return a few different versions).

I'd like to do it manually, but couldn't find the guide that gives this information. Maybe I've missed something and am being stupid sorry.

This might help: http://cultiv.nl/blog/2011/7/18/how-to-install-umbraco-manually/.  It's basically, set up a site in IIS(/Express) unzip the files and load them into the site, set permissions and then hit the website in a browser to run through the installer screens.  The permissions settings are the things that catch most people out (which WebMatrix and WPI handle for you) but aside from that it's generally painless.
