    How can i upgrade from umbraco 4.7.1 to 4.9

    Installing umbraco

    Hi,

    I want to upgrade from umbraco v 4.7.1 to 4.9. Any one tell me which is the best way to do that.

    • Download the 4.9 source and extract to a local folder
    • Copy everything from Build folder
    • Open your existing project in Windows explorer and paste into the root of that folder
    • Naviagte to the local site and run through the installation process
    I'd always make sure you have a full backup of project and database BEFORE performing any upgrades.

    I would suggest upgrading to 4.8.1 first, then to 4.9 - making sure to merge any differences in your web.config file at each step as well.  (Just follow the upgrade notes that are included in the zip file, or on the Codeplex site - http://umbraco.codeplex.com/releases/view/94118 )

    We ran a couple of upgrade tests using a 4.7.2 version, and a straight upgrade to 4.9 caused a few random errors. When we tried upgrading incrementally via 4.8 it worked perfectly.
