Does anybody have any experience upgrading a 4.0.4.1 to 4.10.1 site? Is this possible at all?
I'm redesigning an existing site running a 4.0.4.1 installation, and am wondering whether it's worth upgrading, or if it's only going to be a one way ticket to upgrading hell.
Of course it's easy to say, yes - upgrade to the latest and greatest. But realistically, unless you want/need the latest features (and more importantly) bug-fixes, then you need to decide how much time/effort that you want to put into upgrading.
With v4.0.x, you'll be using the legacy XML schema - so an initial upgrade to v4.5.x has the option to use the new XML schema - but you'll need to convert all your XSLT macros (if you use them?)
I've put together an "unofficial" archive of all the Umbraco releases, along with a recommend upgrade path.

It might seem a little overkill - but I've done many upgrades, and hit a few snags with trying to skip major versions.
Good luck!
Cheers, Lee.
