Hi, have you got this working now? What is the errors are you getting from your installation? If you are still having errors, post back :). I have always found it easier to create an iis site manually rather than installing through web matrix. Thanks. Charlie :)
I installed yesterday using the WebPI and came back today to find I couldn't access the site or find it in IIS(7). I added it to IIS manually and fiddled with some directory permissions to get everything going so now I can at least log in as an admin and look around.
Now for the really stupid question... Yesterday I had a nice GUI with a launch in VS button and some other options that I'd like to at least see so I can assess how useful it is. Was this part of the installer or should I be able to see it? I've got a suspicion my installation ran under a different user account.
I have had real problems with WebPI in the past. Ah ok so you created an iis site, added permissions, database and you could get into Umbraco using ~/umbraco/?
What is the VS button? and could you descirbe the nice GUI? :). I think you were at the end install screen so you need to go to your site name you added in the host file and add /umbraco/ to end of it.
That GUI with the VS button is WebMatrix ( I'm pretty sure anyway ;-)
It's quite a good way of trying out Umbraco.
If you're very new to Umbraco, have a look at the free videos on www.umbraco.tv to get an idea. But beware that the versions and therefore the specifics will have changed since they were produced.

Hi
To start with, I would use the Web PI -
http://www.microsoft.com/web/downloads/platform.aspx
you can just install Umbraco or Webmatrix (IDE) as well
