    Version confusion...

    Hi,

Im relatively new with Umbraco and wonder which version you would recommend to start. If i get Umbraco with WebMatrix I get version 4.10 but in codeplex I see version 6.0.0 as the recommended. Can someone help me out of this confusion? What is the main difference between major version 4 and 6?

    Thanks

    Roman

    Hi Roman

v6 is the latest version and as it says on the download page it's also the recommended version. Unfortunately Umbraco HQ can't control the feeds for webmatrix and web platform installer so therefore these feeds are sometimes not quite up to date.

However I'm shocked if MS has not yet updated the feeds with the latest Umbraco version since it's been out for some weeks now.

The main difference between 4.11.4 and 6 is the new API, which is easier and more lightweight.

Since 4.10 Umbraco has also had support for MVC.

    Hope this helps.

    /Jan

Umbraco v6 is pretty stable, but it has some breaking changes which means not all packages work with that version. Currently 4.11.4 is the most safe version, but v6 could be faster because of the new API.
