Arno, I'm curious how your results were? Did you go with 4.11.6 or 6? Any major hurdles? I have a site that I'm about to upgrade and I'm facing the same decision.
honestly !! I gave up to make an upgrade off the site..
The main reasion was that my provider did not give me access rights for this file
'D:\xxxx\xxxx\xxxxx.dk\App_Data\ClientDependency\wsw32-c40034745e3dfb8d0749408118e0e52a-map.xml' is denied.
He wanted me to runs some programs.. that also did not work..
Offcouse all this was done on my testsite, soo the main site stayed on 4.5.2... but what I will do is to start for start --> installing the 6.X version and the copy my data from the old database to the new one... using an excel shit as a between media for data..
Thanks for getting back to me. It's definitely a bit more work to go from 4.5.2, but I was able to get the upgrade working except all of the xslt macros broke. I've already started re-writing them in Razor (which was part of the plan anyway) so I'd say it was a success. I opted for 4.11.9 though, I'll consider 6.x if the client calls for it. Sorry to hear the client didn't give you access, upgrading was definitely easier than copying everything over.
How can I Upgrade Umbraco from 4.5.2 to 6.?
Hi
Can you help me ?
I have a website that runs umbraco 4.5.2 and I would like to upgrade to 6.? but I have custom made controls and tables in the database...
How do I upgrade best ??
Hi Arno,
Why do you want to upgrade to 6?
It's an easier upgrade path to 4.11.6 (there are two Umbraco paths at the moment 4.x.x & 6.x.x
http://umbraco.codeplex.com/releases/view/98167
The main reason to upgrade to 6 is if you want to use MVC.
Rich
Hi Rich
I thought that the next step would be to go to 6.0
But I will look into 4.11.6
Thanks..

Arno,
You can still upgrade to 6.0, the improved API really interested me. but if you feel more comfortable with 4 i would suggest sticking to the 4.11.6
Ken
Ken ...
Do you know how my custom controls will work with 6.0 ?
/arno
If you have custom code / controls the path of least resistance is 4.11.6 :)
Ok... I will go for the 4.11.6 and see what happen... thanks !!
